Text to speech is useful for proofreading, for accessibility, and for listening to a document while doing something else. Hearing text read aloud often reveals mistakes that reading silently misses, such as a repeated word, a missing word, or a sentence that does not flow. It is also helpful for people who find reading long text on screen tiring.

The voices available depend on your browser and device, not on ToolNest, so the same text may sound different in different browsers. If a voice sounds unclear, try a different voice or a slower speed if your browser offers one, and break very long text into shorter sections.

Privacy: this tool uses your browser's speech system on your device. Your text is not sent to a ToolNest server.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Text to Speech sound different in different browsers?

Because the voices come from your browser and device, not from ToolNest. Different browsers and devices offer different voices, so the same text can sound different depending on where you open the tool.

Can I download the speech as an audio file?

This tool plays the speech in your browser using your device's speech system. It does not create a downloadable audio file, so use it for listening and proofreading rather than for making a recording.

How long a text can I listen to?

For normal document lengths it works in the browser, but very long texts are easier to listen to in sections. Break a long document into parts and listen to one part at a time if the speech stops or becomes hard to follow.

Is my text uploaded when I use Text to Speech?

No. The text is read by your browser's speech system on your device. It is not sent to a ToolNest server, and nothing is saved after you close the page.
