Date Difference

Date Difference works out how many days, months and years lie between two dates, free and in your browser. You enter a start date and an end date, and the tool shows the gap in days, and in years, months and days.

Counting days between dates by hand is error-prone, because months have different lengths and leap years add an extra day. A date difference tool does the calendar arithmetic correctly, which matters for age checks, project timelines, leave calculations, and deadlines. The result here is given both as a total number of days and as years, months and days, because different uses need different forms.

Be clear about whether you want to include both the start and end dates in the count, because that changes the total by one day. Most date difference tools, including this one, count the gap between the dates, not both dates themselves, so check that convention if an exact day count matters for a deadline.

Frequently asked questions

How many days are there between two dates?

Enter both dates and the tool will count the actual calendar days between them, including different month lengths and leap years. The total days figure is the simplest answer, while the years, months and days figure breaks the same gap down into calendar units.

Does Date Difference include the start and end dates?

No, it counts the gap between them, not both dates themselves. If you need an inclusive count for a booking or a deadline, add one day to the result, and check the convention the organisation you are dealing with uses.

How are leap years handled?

Leap years are included automatically, because the calculation works from actual calendar dates. A gap that crosses 29 February will therefore be one day longer than the same gap in a non-leap year.

Are my dates uploaded or saved?

No. Calculation happens in your browser only. Nothing is sent to a server and nothing is saved after you close the page.
