Sorting a list makes it easier to find things, to spot duplicates, and to present it in a sensible order. Lists copied from elsewhere often arrive in no particular order, and sorting them by hand is slow and error-prone. This tool sorts the whole list at once, whether it is names, items, or lines of text, and it can also shuffle a list when a random order is what you need.
Check whether you want numbers sorted as numbers or as text, because the two give different results. Sorting as text puts 10 before 2, because it compares characters, while sorting as numbers puts 2 before 10. Choose the sort that matches what the list actually contains.
Privacy: this tool runs entirely in your browser — no upload, no signup, and your files never leave your device.
Sort the lines of a list A–Z or Z–A, reverse them, shuffle them, add numbers or delete the empty lines — all in one click.

Frequently asked questions
How do I sort a list alphabetically?
Paste the list, choose A to Z, and the tool will order the lines by their first letter, then by the following letters. Capital letters and lower case are handled as part of that ordering, so check the result if capitalisation matters for your list.
Why does sorting as text put 10 before 2?
Because text sorting compares characters from left to right, and '1' comes before '2', so '10' sorts before '2'. If your list is numbers, choose a numeric sort instead, which compares the values themselves.
Can I shuffle a list instead of sorting it?
Yes. Choose the shuffle option and the tool will put the lines in a random order. That is useful for drawing names, randomising a quiz order, or breaking up a list that was grouped by source.
Is my list uploaded when I sort it?
No. Sorting happens in your browser only. Nothing is sent to a server and nothing is saved after you close the page.
