Slug Generator

Slug Generator makes a clean URL slug from a title, free and in your browser. You type a title, and the tool turns it into a short, lower-case, hyphen-separated slug for a blog post, page, or product.

A slug is the readable part of a web address after the domain, such as 'how-to-resize-an-image' in a blog URL. A good slug is short, uses only lower-case letters, numbers and hyphens, and describes the page in words a person can read. Slugs made by hand often contain spaces, capital letters, or special characters that break links or look messy, so generating one automatically avoids those mistakes.

Keep the slug short and focused on the main words of the title. A very long slug is hard to read and hard to share, so drop filler words such as 'and', 'the' and 'a' if they do not change the meaning, and keep the words that describe the page.

Frequently asked questions

What is a URL slug?

A slug is the readable tail of a web address, after the domain name. For a post titled 'How to Resize an Image', a good slug is 'how-to-resize-an-image'. It should use only lower-case letters, numbers and hyphens.

Why should a slug be lower case?

Because web addresses are case-sensitive on many servers, so 'My-Page' and 'my-page' can be treated as different addresses. Lower case avoids broken links and duplicate pages caused by capitalisation differences.

How long should a slug be?

Short enough to read at a glance, usually a handful of words. Include the main words that describe the page, and drop filler words that do not change the meaning, so the slug stays clear and shareable.

Is my title uploaded when I generate a slug?

No. Generation happens in your browser only. Nothing is sent to a server and nothing is saved after you close the page.
