Image Converter

Image Converter changes a photo from one format to another — JPG, PNG or WebP — in your browser, free and without uploading it. You choose the new format, and in some cases the quality, then download the converted image.

Different places want different image formats, and that is the whole reason this tool exists. A PNG is useful when you need transparency, a JPG is usually smaller for photographs, and WebP is a newer format that many websites prefer because it keeps quality at a smaller file size. Converting does not change what is in the photo, only how it is stored, so the picture itself stays the same. The conversion runs locally, which is helpful when you do not want to send a personal photo to an online converter.

Choose the format for the job, not just the smallest file. If your image has a transparent background, keep it as PNG or WebP, because JPG has no transparency and will fill the background with a solid colour. For ordinary photographs, JPG or WebP will usually give you a smaller file without a visible difference.

Privacy: this tool runs entirely in your browser — no upload, no signup, and your files never leave your device.

Frequently asked questions

Which image format should I choose, JPG, PNG or WebP?

Choose PNG when you need transparency or sharp text and lines. Choose JPG for ordinary photographs where a smaller file matters more. Choose WebP when the site you are uploading to accepts it and you want a small file with good quality.

Does converting an image change how it looks?

Not in any way you would normally notice, if you keep the quality high. Very low quality settings will soften detail and add artefacts, especially in JPG, so check the preview and keep the quality up for photos you care about.

Can I convert a PNG with a transparent background to JPG?

You can, but the transparency will be lost, because JPG does not support it. The transparent area will usually become white or black, so keep the PNG or use WebP if transparency matters.

Is my photo uploaded when I convert it here?

No. The file is read and converted in your browser only. Nothing is sent to a server, and nothing is stored after you close the page.
