PDF Rotate — free online tool guide

PDF Rotate — How to Use It Online for Free

PDF Rotate turns pages that are sideways or upside down — the classic scanned-document problem — by 90°, 180° or 270°. You can rotate the whole document or only the pages you name, and the correction is saved into a new PDF.

Scanners and phone scanning apps guess page direction, and they guess wrong often enough that rotated pages are a daily nuisance in offices. Reading a sideways PDF by tilting your head is one thing; submitting it in an application is another — an evaluator may not bother. Fixing the rotation inside the file means it opens correctly for every reader, forever.

How to use the PDF Rotate

  1. Drop your PDF in, or click to choose one.
  2. Choose the rotation — 90°, 180° or 270°.
  3. Leave the pages box empty to rotate all pages, or type a range like 1-3, 5.
  4. Click “Rotate & download”.

A quick example

A scanned agreement has pages 4 and 5 upside down. Load the PDF, choose 180°, type '4-5' in the pages box, rotate and download — the document now reads straight through.

Tips for better results

Working with PDFs online

PDFs are designed to look identical everywhere, which is why the whole world sends documents as PDF — and why working on them means changing the container rather than the content. The tools here handle the everyday container jobs: joining, splitting, ordering, stamping and numbering. Two habits keep PDF work painless. Keep your original file until you have opened and checked the result — every tool here creates a new file rather than changing yours. And do your edits in a sensible order: merge or split first, delete and rotate next, stamp after that, and add page numbers last of all, so the numbering matches the final document.

Common questions

Which angle do I need? If the page's top points left, rotate 90° one way; if it points right, use 270°; if the page is fully upside down, use 180°. If you pick wrong, run the tool again on the result — rotation can be repeated until it looks right.

Can I rotate just one page of many? Yes — type that page number (or a range) in the pages box. Pages you do not name stay exactly as they were.

Are my files uploaded to a server? No. The PDF Rotate runs entirely in your browser — your file is processed on your own device and is never sent to ToolNest or anywhere else. Close the tab and everything is cleared.

One tool rarely finishes the whole job. The natural companions to this one are covered in the PDF Merge guide and the PDF Split guide — between them, most PDF tasks can be handled end to end in the browser, with no installs and no accounts.
