GST Calculator — free online tool guide

GST Calculator — How to Use It Online for Free

The GST Calculator adds GST to a price or removes it from a GST-inclusive price, at the standard slabs of 5%, 12%, 18% and 28% — and shows the CGST and SGST split that Indian bills require. It is the calculation to do before making any bill or quotation.

GST mistakes are usually direction mistakes: adding tax to a price that already includes it, or quoting a 'final' price and then discovering the tax must come out of it. Fixing the direction first — is my number with tax or without? — is the whole skill. The CGST/SGST split matters because bills and returns must show it; getting it from the calculator beats splitting by hand and rounding wrong.

How to use the GST Calculator

  1. Enter the amount.
  2. Choose whether the amount excludes GST (to add it) or includes GST (to remove it).
  3. Select the GST slab — 5, 12, 18 or 28%.
  4. Read the GST amount, the CGST/SGST halves and the final total.

A worked example

You sell a service for Rs 10,000 before tax at 18% GST: GST = Rs 1,800 (CGST Rs 900 + SGST Rs 900), bill total Rs 11,800. If a client instead says 'Rs 11,800 including GST', removing GST gives the same base of Rs 10,000.

Tips for better results

A note on online calculators

Online calculators are only as good as the numbers typed into them, so two habits matter. First, decide what the result should roughly be before you calculate — an expected range catches the classic errors, like a misplaced decimal or a rate entered per month instead of per year. Second, read the labels: many money mistakes are really direction mistakes (adding tax instead of removing it, dividing by the new value instead of the original). The calculators here show the full picture — not just the headline figure but the totals and splits behind it — so you can see whether the answer makes sense, and adjust the inputs until it does.

Common questions

What is the CGST/SGST split? For sales within one state, the GST is split equally between the Centre (CGST) and the State (SGST) — an 18% slab shows as 9% + 9%. For sales to another state the full amount is IGST instead; the total tax is the same.

How do I find the base price from a bill total? Use the 'remove GST' mode: enter the bill total and the slab, and the calculator separates the base price from the tax. Dividing the total by 1.18 (for an 18% slab) gives the same base.

Do I need to sign up or install anything? No. The GST Calculator is completely free, needs no account and nothing to install — it runs in your browser, and anything you type stays on your device.

One tool rarely finishes the whole job. The natural companions to this one are covered in the Age Calculator guide and the Unit Converter guide — between them, most calculation tasks can be handled end to end in the browser, with no installs and no accounts.
